Default Do I need a tune?

Greetings all. I recently just moved to Colorado, specifically Colorado Springs from Oakland, CA. I just dropped off my bike at the stealership for the 7.5K service and the tech there was telling that I need to get the bike tuned for the altitude difference. The only that I replaced while still in Cali was the pipes, and even then I didnt have it tuned. I do want to change the AC and get it tuned, but will my ride be ok as is or should I get it tuned. And if it is to be tuned, should I let them do the in house dyno or should I get a piggy back system? Thanks for the help, and happy riding!

If you are happy with the way the bike runs, no need for a tune. Just ride.

IMO if you care about performance dyno it when you do the air intake. Then you will actually gain some significant power.

I don't see a need to tune your bike just because you changed altitudes. Now when you do your intake it will be necessary. As for a tuner, you get a lot more flexibility down the road with a piggy back or similar unit. The dealer download and dyno run will probably cost more and you don't know how good their tuner is.

Colorado Springs Harley is the biggest BS dealership I have ever been to, and I'll never spend another cent there.

They'd sell you snake oil if they could, and love taking advantage of all the military transfers to the area, as so many own bikes.

EFI - no need
Carb - do it yourself.

I'd also wait until you complete the stage one, and then take it to an Indy Shop, like American Motorcycles on East Platte Ave.

I forgot...all of those tuners out there are a rip off and you don't need them if your bike is fuel injected...

Altitude does make a difference, however if it ride fine and your happy screw it.

With that said, If your gunna tune it IMO go with the Dynojet power Commander.
Its one of the best (imo).
The factory HD dyno tune is more costly, plus they can only tune it to run in spec with emissions perimeters.
If you go with a PC (the off road use) you will then get the bike to run as it should, and as the dealer should be doing if it was not for the emissions BS!

You can go for the HD tune, but it will still run hot, and not be completely and totally dialed in.

Also with the PC if you decide to change pipes ac or do engine work, you can load a new map yourself, rather than PAY again for an update.

Again JMO...

First ride will be glitchy for the first few miles...but EFI will self adjust....after 15 or so miles it will be purring like normal.

I don't think this is true. I just don't think he has to have one right now just with pipes just because of altitude.
