California bikes are set up to run lean from the factory. keep an eye on your plugs it will tell how you are running. with the air being thinner you should be running better.

bingo, and a few others said the same.. let the open loop EFI (old school ford guy sry) do its thing for a bit.. thats what the sensors/comp are designed to do within limits.
as for a re-tune with a pipe.. my thought process is u can ONLY get as much air as u can get in.. if ur running the OEM filter/housing.. well.. an exhaust just sounds better..
check ur oil temp and shoot the head with a laser temp gun.. read ur plugs before you drop coin... my 2 cents
DISCLAIMER.. i just bought a bike.. that said i used to mod/race air cooled VW engines.. yes AIR COOLED.. yes VW.
I have a lot of miles on air cooled VW engines.....
If you decide to tune, do a bit of research and make sure you consider the TTS tuning kit, the PCs are great for making power cheaply and certainly better than nothin, but there is nothing like a little more sophisticated tune to wake up the bike and for street riding enjoyment under all conditions. Otherwise find a good tuning shop and usewhat they recommend.
I forgot...all of those tuners out there are a rip off and you don't need them if your bike is fuel injected...
you obviously have no idea, I run a TTS and I can tell you for a fact that with a tune, pipes and AC your bike runs a lot better, fuel injection will compensate only so far then you are outside the correct operating zone, I would stop posting about things you have no clue about.
Having tune my ride myself i can tell you that saw the changes in the fuel map, if you like paying for fuel to go out your pipes be my guest, myself I would rather have a well tuned bike.
Will it run yes sure it will, will it be good for it, I doubt it either way out of tune is out of tune either carbon build up from to rich of overeating from running to lean both will take miles and miles off your engine, me I plan on riding my ride for as long as I can, think of it like a horse would you over feed your horse and then expect him to win the race, or would you under feed him and expect him to win?

Doesn't the air become 'thinner' at altitude, which could cause more of a leaner condition?
Air does thin out at altitude. I may be wrong (again) but wouldn't the ECM compensate for less air coming in by reducing the amount of fuel to keep the AFR at the target?
thats true I am a bit slow some times, sorry I took it as posted normally (in the interweb code) you need to put a funny smile or something on the end to indicate sarcasm (for the slow kids like me),
