Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
You don't HAVE to, but a dyno tune, in the right hands, will get you the most out of your motor. Also depends on what you're running for a tuner. You didn't give any info about your bike and what mods are on it so it's kind of hard to answer.
If you decide to get the bike dynoed make sure the tech who does it knows what he's doing and is familiar with your tuner. Lots of people put the bike on a dyno, but only a few really know how to do it right.
Thanks Nevil- I have a 2012 ultra with V&H power duals and Rinehart slip ons. I want to add an air filter and tuner. I just bought the bike and the guy did not know if it had been on the dyno. He had the exhaust installed by the dealer when he purchased it.
With just the exhaust done there wouldn't be any reason to get it dynoed. With the mods you're planning it wouldn't be a bad idea. There's tons of threads here on different tuners, so do some research and see what makes sense to you. If there's a good dyno guy in your area find out which tuner he's comfortable with.
Around here the popular tuners seem to be TTS and Power Vision. The PV has an auto tune feature and you can get a decent tune with a dyno. I'm running the ThunderMax with auto tune. It may be a little dated but has worked great for me for 5 years. One reason I got it was it doesn't require dyno time and if I make any changes I can just load up a new map and go from there.
