Default A question for the tuners out there?

So I recently picked up a 15 Breakout. I immediately installed a Bassani Pro Street exhaust and am about to install my RSD intake kit. I'm well aware of the benefits of tuning since I've owned a modified Grand National for years.
But since the BO is naturally asperated, how soon do I need to get it tuned. Our local Harley dealer has a great tuner guy but I'm not a fan of the the bike on a dyno since I will not be seeking every ounce of horsepower the bike can deliver. They offer 2 tuning options, $550.00 and $650.00 tune. It does pop and gurgle a bit on decelleration like most untuned bikes do. Do I have other options just to get the air/fuel corrected without being put on a dyno? Surely it wont hurt to ride a month or 2 till funds allow some sort of tune. Thanks for any help here.

First of all a dyno tune does not have to be just for max horsepower tuning. A good dyno tuner can tune for any style of riding. Second, depending on how lean the motor will be with the new exhaust and A/C; yes you could do some damage in a month. Third, yes lot's of options in lieu of a dyno tune. You can get a tuner and tune yourself, get a canned map, auto tuning, etc....

Vance and Hines FP3. Hands down, the easiest, most effective tuner out there. And half the dyno prices you quoted. My 2 cents.

Call Fuel Moto, buy a Powervision for $400 get a canned map for what you have on the bike now and free future maps for whatever you do to you're bike, for as long as you own it. Do not waste you're money on a dyno tune until you do some major work to the Breakout.

I had no problems with V&H FP3. I put one on my 17 FLSTC when I added slip ons. Ran the auto tune and after a few tankfulls I applied it to the bike. Still had alot of decel pop, so i went into the map and adjusted the decel pop. Runs great now, and any speed any temp i can let off the throttle and it has absolutely no pop.
the thing works great when you follow the directions.

Power Vision 2. Very easy to tune, cheaper than Dyno, don't need laptop, can keep it on bike and auto-tune, not "married" to one bike although there is a fee for using it on another.

You should tune it ASAP IMHO...

While the ECM can account for some changes in the VE (volumetric efficiency) of the engine, EPA has made sure that HD engines are lean from the factory, and you have increased the VE of the engine (air cleaner & exhaust). Where the ECM can't handle the changes, will be at the high rpm, high load areas where you need the tune to be good... Remember, the open loop portions of your tune will be lean (outside basic cruise areas), and the closed loop portions (cruise areas) are controlled by the OEM narrowband O2 sensors. They are only accurate between 14.4:1 and 15.1:1... Anything outside just cruising along on flat highway, and you'll be pretty lean...

A lot of people love their FP3s and it seems to be effective on Stage I mods.

The statement in bold, however, is a matter of opinion....

For a different opinion...

The FP3 certainly isn't the "most effective tuner" out there... I know of no dyno tuner that uses an FP3 on the dyno for tuning.... there are, much better tuners available. A PowerVision Tuner or TTS Tuner are the top two.....

I've never used an FP3, but it's hard to imagine that it could be easier to use than a PowerVision Tuner, which I use. No, I can't use my phone to tune my bike, but get ready for a shock... the ONLY thing I use my phone for is to call or text people... so as one who doesn't need/want his phone to be able to function.... I just don't see that as a plus..

Obviously the best tune would be a dyno tune, from a competent tuner...... unfortunately, in my area, I know of no good tuners, so I'm on my own....

My choice, in lieu of a dyno tune, I got a PowerVision form FuelMoto. You get a canned map for your mods (from either FuelMoto or DynoJet), do a couple auto tune sessions (actually kind of fun to do but not necessary), and you end up with a very good street tune... If you run into any issues, you can send a data-log to FuelMoto and they will address your concerns, issues...

IMHO..... the PowerVision would truly be the only tuner you'd ever need to buy.... I bought the tuner, $199 for a license to add my 2nd bike, and I've added three, close friends' bikes (@$199 each) to my tuner, and I flash their ECMs for them when they change/add mods.... And, if you ever find a good dyno tuner, many can/will use a powervision on their dyno....

Good luck with your decision....

So I understand what I'm looking at. The PowerVision has a monitor that needs to be mounted somewhere, or once it's tuned to your liking you can remove it?

Edit:
I found my answer from this guy.

As others have stated, the FP3 for Stage 1 mods is more than sufficient but limited. I currently run a ThunderMax in my Slim, but it is a bit more $ than the FP3.
