Default tire pressure?

Im on my 2nd rear tire with my 09 SG. I got 7200 miles out of the first rear(K591 Dunlop) riding mostly solo keeping around 36psi in it. Now mostly riding double and have appr 4000 miles on the 2nd rear tire and its not going to make it anywhere near the 7200 miles the first tire got. Been running 40psi in it because thats what the tire guy suggested. Wear isnt just "right down the middle" like over-inflation, its about the 3 1/2" of contact patch thats wearing down alot. I weigh 200 and my lady is about 150. What pressure are you guys running who ride dual mostly? Or is this common with the extra weight?

I just did my second rear tire at 15k miles. I ride 2up 90% of the time. I'm 230, wife is 130.

Always try to keep it at 40, but we go on some good size tours (going to Canada in August).

I keep 34 in the front and 38 in the back

I know you didn't ask about tire brand but i will offer it any way.
I have metzler 880's
the front has 21,000 and the back has 15,000
the back will need to be changed in the next month or two and I will probably change the front at the same time but it looks like it could go a while longer if needed

I weigh 165 and wife wieghts 105 and rides half the time

The k591 is softer and wont last as long. I only got about 7500 out of the one i had too. I changed to the dunlop d402 (i think will have to out and look on my bike) i think it 402 on the back and 401 on the front. Last rear got about 15000 and front is getting thin but looks like i might make about 18000 on it

Changed my rear last year at 5400 miles but would have gone 7500. Was taking a long trip & changed it to be on the safe side. Solo rider, 220 lbs, progressive 430 shocks set midrange. Usually do rural road riding & some highway miles. Will change brands next time. I'm sure there are other brands that will hold up better.

Hey Wydeglidebob, thanks for the comment. Yea, I know the myth that green bikes are suppose to be unlucky and the color sure enough isn't for everyone. However, I can spot mine in a sea of bikes ( especially since black seems to be the "in" color now) and It gets a comment or two on every ride. I'll have to look into Metzlers and the Michelin line they came out with for the Dynas.

Looks like Il have to try the Metzlers next time around. Got about 11k on the original front Dunlop and its time to replace it too. Only reason I went back with the Dunlop is because it was in stock and I went on an unexpected trip and didnt want to chance it with the old tire. Thanks for the info guys!

Thumbs up Mitchelin

My bike came with the Mitchelin tires and they were bad at 7000m easy miles. Just went with Dunlops hopefully they will be better.
