Actually, the OP not only never mentioned the manual, but IIRC also never mentioned what bike; some, like mine, have a built-in measuring gauge on the belt guard, for example. His manual would show this.

When it comes to thinking, I've bought the HD tensioner gauge for my other Harley, it is too complicated to use, I end up using the twist technique and the tool sat on the shelf for years lol.
