Default 2011 runs like CRAP when VERY hot out

I road my 2011 DWG home from work yesterday. It was 110 outside. The bike had poor acelleration and top end was really slow at coming on. Just wondering if others experence these same issues? Bike is bone stock BTW..

You must remember that these are air cooled engines,110 is pretty hot, nothing to worry about, but I would'nt run it to hard in the extreme heat.

No problems on the Fatbob, but I'm running a PC-V, Fatcat, and SE open filter. I, on the other hand, had to get a mesh jacket to deal with the blast oven that is AZ in the summer.

The bikes run lean from the factory which = hot, especially in AZ temps. Get a fuel management system and high flow A/C. An oil cooler would help as well.

I'm pretty sure the ecm retards the timing at a certain engine temp to keep the engine from detonating/pinging. Mine does the same thing. Will help a bit when you get in tuned as it will run cooler and be less likely to reach the "bogie" retard temp.

This is why. These bikes are lean out of the box. Get a tuner and you will notice it will run better in high temps

I run a thunderheader, heavy breather and screaming eagle super tuner on my 2011 FXDWG and have no problems. It was 102 yesterday. I rode 5.5 hours at 45 to 50 mph. Bike ran fine. Do a stage 1 upgrade. It'll help ya.

+1 on the Stage 1. Even with new breather, pipes and a generic map download it will run better in the heat

Might try the Nightrider Xieds if you are keeping your bike stock for the foreseeable future. I was skeptical, but they actually brought the temps down and eliminated the slight pinging on my stock '07 SB. Might call them to see if they make a version for your bike of if the '07 up version fits your application because you can usually find a used set for sale from someone who added a tuner.
