You can run what ya brung down the dragstrip. I happened to run with a Fatbob. That guy kicked my **** so badly it wasn't even funny, even though I laughed my **** off. When we came back around, I asked him what he had 'under the hood'. He told me a stage 4 103. My only response was 'Well, there ya go." lol
I was far enough behind him that when he crossed the timing line, I saw he was doing 123mph.
Some crazy bikes. One of my favorites was a shovelhead that had the tins painted using red and white metallic spray-on chrome. I also saw a Street Bob that was painted using bed liner. Oh yeah, there were some scantilly clad women.
Man I miss the Smokout, I went to 3 of them when I live in Raleigh. Easy 2-3hr trip, but not now, Maryland make for a long two day trip.
Very soon I'll be living back in NJ and I plan to continue to go. I'll try to make it a few day thing though. Maybe some Tail of the Dragon then swing over to the SO, then home.
I'm pretty sure Richie Pan does some cool things at his south jersey tat shop. That's a bit closer to you than Rockingham is.
[edit] Actually, that ride for you can't be 8hrs. I bet if you left your house at 6am on friday (since it always starts on a friday afternoon), you can be there by 2-3pm. 1.5 days of party, then saddle up on sunday morning and ride home. Not that bad.

I've never had the pleasure of camping at the SO but I'm sure that's where all the real fun happens. There are some very cool bikes, etc.
[EDIT] Gotta ask..do you have a brother/cousin named Jason who was rebuilding an old shovel and has a blog about it on blogspot? Swearingen is not a common name. lol
