the manual lists rpm to speed chart, that might give you a good idea.

as for me, I really am watching the tach during break in. i'm about spot on for what the book says.

i really think it all depends on conditions and how you drive though.

i get the best power shifting from first to second about 35. 2nd to 3rd about 50. 3rd to 4th about 65. then to 5th at hwy speed and 6th when im cruising 70 mph + . I dont know about shifting for better mileage. My bike seems to get 38 to 40 mpg no matter how hard I ride it. 80 mph for 250 miles on the hwy I got 40 mpg.

I never look at the speedo when changing gears, I do it when the bike needs me to and that is as variable as there are days in a year....and no two riders really change gear or brake the same, except on race tracks.

Bike needs to be between 2,000 and 5,500rpm usually ;-)

Never look at the speedo to decide when to shift here either.. When it sounds and feels right I shift.

I shift by the way the bike feels an motor sounds. I careless about speedo. I try an run a gear were everything feels comfortable at that speed.
