Default FXDC Detach Sideplate/Turn Relocation Question!

OK, I have a 2011 FXDC and am looking at putting detachable sideplates on the bike. Harley website (bike builder) does not say that a turn signal relocation is necessary nor does the dealer I bought the bike from. But, the dealer where I am going to buy parts from says it is required.

I am asking because I really dislike the crappy looking stems that are required with the turn relocation as opposed to the nicely sculpted stems that are on there now. As far as I know there is no way to keep the nice stems if you have to use the kit.

Any advice would be great, parts are coming in tomorrow and I am trying to decide if this was a good idea or not!

Thanks in advance.

Jenk, yeah, you have to use the crummy looking relocation stems. Just did this myself and wasn't that happy with it but in my case I have a sissy bar with a rack and tend to leave it on the bike so I don't really notice the crummy stems. Actually the relocation stems don't look all that bad and we're probably the only ones who will notice. I jacked my bike up and undid the the lower shock bolts so I had plenty of room to work under the fender. Not too bad a job, just hate cutting and splicing the factory wiring.

You don't have to use the crappy stems. I got an aftermarket laydown plate mount that uses the stock stems. I powdercoated the mount and the stems. I bought it used, so don't know the brand. I'll try to find out

+1 on how Crazy did it. That's how I did mine. The MoCo's relocation kits stink!

OK, I found it in the J&P paper catalog. I'm a bit of a computer dummy so I don't know how to post a link. It's made by a company called Great Bike Gear.

Good Luck

You can find the one's that Crazy has at Great Bike Gear, they are made by Easy Brackets. I have them on my bike, too.

Oops, I see that Crazy says differently. Oh, well.....

You might be right, I'm just going by what it says in the J&P catalog, and I've seen things listed wrong in there before.

You could be right, too. I was just going by the box label that they came in, it says "Great Bike Gear - Easy Brackets". I guess that might just be their own name for them, having nothing to do with the Easy Brackets of saddle bag QD fame, but the two just seemed to go had in hand. In fact I ordered both on the same day, but from different sources. The Easy Bracket QD saddlebag brackets were ordered from ClassicCruiser, so I guess Easy Brackets outlets their products through various vendors.

I keep a detailed list of what I buy, who from, what brand and how much I paid. I don't suggest this to anyone, though. My excel spreadsheet tells me that I've spent more money on mods than what I paid for the bike!

At any rate, I bought the laydown license plate/signal relocators from Great Bike Gear. I just looked through my J&P catalog and didn't see them in there.

When I put the docking kit on my bike I replaced the rear bolt from the kit with one that was the same size as the signal light. I ran the bolt from the inside of the fender out and ran the wire under the fender. Very clean and easy to do. I have since removed my rear signals and I am now using the D2Moto LED Tail Light with the built in directionals. There are plenty of options out there. I have seen the signals mounted to the fender, and on the swing arm as well. Alloy Art makes an LED that goes over the end of the rear strut for a very clean look. Do a little digging and I am sure you will be able to find something that fits your needs and style.
