Default throttle cable removal---help

I have an 01 wide glide carb.

I am replacing my throttle/idle cables and am having trouble getting them out of the throttle housing. there is a little clip that i have gotten out but cannot pull the elbow out of the housing.

any help would be appreciated. I am not worried if i have to ruin the old cables, I have new ones.

someone told me they are a pain just keep pulling, or pick out the little retaining clip (tried both still stuck)

Jam nut loose, gas tank propped up, brass ferrulles out, got lower ends out of carb already,

thanks for any help in advance ---

Not sure if the older ones are the same but I had the same problem with my 2010 that had just 2300 miles on it when I put new cables on. Manual says to use a rocking motion to remove them and that worked on one but the other was well and truely stuck in there so knowing I didn't NEED to save it............I cut the inner cable flush and used a drift punch to drive it out.......worked, but I suspect the new one wont come out any easier - it went in a little tough as well just as the other side snapped right in place.

sounds like you know what I am talking about frustrating. Thanks for the reply I got the punch out but didn't go to town yet, I am gonna try the rocking motion first. My manual has no procedure that i could find on "removal or installation" of cable.

Thanks again

You are talking about the metal pieces routed through the controls right? They take a little work but should pop out. I used the "rocking motion" and they eventually gave.
Spray some WD in there or something?

The rocking motion is supposed to work, one of mine didn't - see my post above, you may need to sacrifice the cable to get it out, they don't cost that much.

They are a nightmare. Keep working at it and it'll pop eventually.
