Default OK< 1 more question from the guy from the touring section

OK, I am getting this 94 Ultra in shape for a buddy All electrical now working, new pipes, carb rebuilt new fuel inlet and fuel hose thanks to you guys on the evo forum. Now the throttle does not roll back. I have checked the cables to make sure there was no pinching, I lubed the cables with HD lube and made sure the adjustment know under the throttle was not tightened. I rolls free but does not roll back. The plate on the carb seems to have plenty of spring. Are the cables just mucked up from setting for several years. Also I had loosened the cables to take the carb off and I see in the manual it says the must be adjusted by a HD tech under controlled conditions. Is the BS? Thanks

I adjusted mine on the weekend after taking my carb off for maintenance. First you slacken both cables off by undoing the lock nuts and screwing the outside sleeve down. Then you screw it back up to take the slack slowly watching the cable by the carb to make sure it is not starting to move the actuator. Once you have done this to both cables check to make sure the throttle snaps back once you let go...if it doesn't then slacken the cables off a little at time until it does. Then lock it up. There is a tutorial on you tube on this if you get stuck ...good luck. Oh and if it doesn't work try taking the throttle sleeve off the handle bars and lubing that area.

I just rolled the throttle and let go, I backed off the throttle adjuster until it rolled back on it's own and tightened the lock nut. Seems to be a balance there. Come to think of it, I don't remember if it was the throttle cable or the idle cable I loosed, one of them!

the controled condition is chewing anti masturbation gum

adjust the pull on to your liking < the throttle end play loosness

turn the throttle full on and leave it full on -- than start to back off the the ferrel < put more play in the cable - on the return - the one closest to you - make it shorter with the throttle wide open and your hand not on it the throttle - if the inner sleave is not worn out when you get to it / the correct location it will snap back on its own - tighten the ferrel nut - your done

If his ultra has cruise, then the setting is a bit different from a non cruise bike, as the roll off (idle cable) is one of the ways to de-activate the cruise. There needs to also be some additional 'slop' in the cables to prevent inadvertantly de-activating the cruise while riding. I forget offhand what it is so, check in the FSM section on cruise control for proper adjustment. If you don't have that handy, I can dig around my 'library' and see if I can locate it.

And johnjzjz is right about the 'controlled conditions'....

After you adjust it make sure the throttle snaps back in all 3 positions.
Handle bars to the center, full right, and full left.

Just because it snaps back in one position doesn't guarantee that it will snap back in all three positions.
