Progressive front spring difference??

Default Progressive front spring difference??

So I just stopped by my local moco today and on their clearance table they had a progressive lowering kit for $50, so I bought it. I got happy thinking I got another good deal there since the last deal I got there was a brand new set of short shots for $100. I get home and realize they are not the the drop ins and I'll have to take my forks apart to install them.

Lowering Kit I have progressive part num: 10-1566
Lowering drop in kit progressive part num: 10-2002

Now my question!! Does anybody know the difference in performance between the drop ins vs the kit I have? I just want to know if I should return these and wait to get the drop ins to avoid the hassle of taking apart the forks. Or is this kit 1566 better then the drop ins 2002's or the same in performance?? For $50 I'm a little torn on keeping them and really just want to know if going through the extra hassle to install these is worth it?

i`ll be interested in other opinions, but i went with the dropins, and it rode as well if not better than stock

You got a good deal on them and taking the forks apart is really not that hard. If it was me I would just use them.

I haven't looked at my manual yet, but I would definitely need new fork seals and how bad did your caps on the top of the lowers get jacked trying to get them off??

Did you keep the same shock oil weight?? I was thinking of running AMSOIL shock therapy 15wt when I do it. From what I've read on hear in the past is 15wt is perfect and with progressives is a night and day difference from stock, but I may need to look at all that stuff again and see what I can find. It has been a while!!

i just had to tear apart my forks to replace seals & it was cake. I watched a 3-part video on youtube before, lol. my caps didn't come flying off - i just kept a good grip on them while un twisting them.

and damn Jaron, the ONLY thing i ever see on my dealer's sale table is HD brand softail & touring seats for $200+

I know right. They had a bunch of manuals on the table too for $30, but they were the electrical troubleshooting ones. My old dealer didn't have any sales like this. So I make this dealer a drink stop from time to time and it pays off for sure..lol!!

I still would like to know if there is a difference though......anybody?? I wrote progressive too, but no responses. Probably not till next week after the holiday.

I think you are much better off with the set you have. With the drop ins you have no real control over rider sag or pre-load. The drops ins basically just use rider sag to set the lowered height and a helper spring to set a pre-determined preload for that particular height and that is all you get. With your set, you can lower the bike using the top out springs and retain the ability to address rider sag or pre-load if you feel it needs to be softer of stiffer. More tunability.

Awesome thanks for the insight! That's what I was thinking when I was reading the directions for both sets, but I'm not that suspension knowledgeable. Actually that's not what I was thinking, I was just thinking that these extra little springs gotta do something more...lol!!

Run what you brung. Dang it I never get parts that cheap. Pipes and now springs . Good job on finding great prices on stuff. Maybe im just not patient enough to go looking LOL...I sure don't seem to find much.
