Default Chopped Fender for Old Wide Glides?

Anyone know of a good place to get a chopped style fender for the older (2009 and earlier) wide glides?

I love the older wide glides but hate the bobtail fender, just curious what my options were and how much it would cost to replace it.

Anything that fits other Dynas of the matching year (excluding the Fat Bob) will fit the pre 08 Wide Glides. You'll have to get new strut covers (or just leave them off) and relocate the rear turn signals.

Best option would probably be to pick up a scratched or dented fender off eBay, cut and fill how you want it and have it painted. All in you're probably talking $350 or so for the completed fender, $50-$75 for strut covers (if you buy used), plus the cost of relocating the sigs.

After saying all that, I'll throw in my $.02. Aside from the 06-08 fenders that I hate (and have), the bobtail is the best looking fender for the Wide Glide. It enhances the long raked out profile. Throwing a chopped or regular Dyna fender on there makes it look like a wannabe chopper.

You really think so? For some reason the bobtail just seemed cheesy or unnecessary to me. I've never liked a very big gap between the rear fender and rear wheel, and I guess that just gives of that vibe. My favorites are always the low and lean back ends to give emphasis to a big front end, so I've just gravitated towards chopped style rear fenders.

EDIT: I agree with what you said about the 06-08 fenders. The years before that (with the more accentuated bobtail flare up) I actually like more...I guess I just don't like the in between years.

WG didn't exist in 2009. That was the year they discontinued it, then in 2010 released what we now have ('10/'11 style).

I doubt you'll find something from any of the big companies. Dyna's are the redheaded stepchild in the customizing world. If you had a Sporty or softail, you'd be golden.

What I'm saying is, you'll probably have to get a little creative in how you achieve what you want. IE, buy a fender that is wider that what you need and then cut it down and weld to fit.

Might make a Street bob, etc fender work but you might be cutting/welding on it.

I agree on the looks of the WG fenders, 05 and earlier were the best looking fenders.

I am curious why you would need new strut covers, you aren't changing the struts are you? Or are you talking about chopping the struts too?

The struts are the same length on the Dynas, but the strut covers are longer on the WG. If you go to a regular Dyna fender, you'll have to change out the covers so they don't extend beyond the fender. And swap out the sigs or relocate them. See attached diagram.

But the covers only extend the length of the strut, I believe there is less than an inch from the last hole to the end of the strut. The WG frame is different from all the others (except pre-06 Low Riders) and the struts are longer too.

I put an 08 or 09, can't remember for sure, on my 07 wide glide, bolted right on. Bought it form another forum member for $50 bucks. If you are going to use strut covers you won't be able to use the stock wide glide covers.

Sounds like the 06 newer struts must be shorter than the 05 older ones, hmmm.

I love the rear fender on Trippsters WG. I want the same fender on my 06.
