I have a 2001 FXD that wont start. It is a carb system. Im getting the basic air, fuel and fire. I have changed the crank position sensor but that was a no go. Any help will be great.
We were on a poker run it was like 100 outside, we stop for a bit to let the bikes cool off, when we went to leave it cranked over back fired and hasnt hit a lick since. It turns over normal. It has a full tank of gas.
something is in the carb sounds like to me, take the float out and clean the needle
and if that dont work, jump a 12v positive to the bottome bolt on the coil,(3/8ths i think) that will tell you if the problem is in the ignition module no need to replace it to check, these carbed bikes will run like that...or if you have a voltage meter you can check the volts on that bolt

Well, if you truly have air, spark and fuel (in the proper ratio) the only thing left is timing. You timing chain(s) may have broken or jumped out of time. Check for compression.
Had this problem a while ago but could obviously be different to yours. In behind the fuel tap is there is a rubber L shaped boot that connects to the fuel tap, I thnk it has something to do with the vaccuum(?). When I was having problems with the same symptoms you seem to be having I found that the rubber boot was weathered and cracked and not allowing to bike to fire. See if its connected to start with. Worth a shot or you could have vapour lock.

Yup. Had the same thing happen to me at a stop light years ago. The vacuum hose came loose (vacuum operated petcock). One good way to find out is to remove the air cleaner and see if the accel pump is working.
