that will not work on your bike there is no where to put the ballast, unless you run a larger lamp, my lamp is 7.5, HUGE and i barely fit the ballast in the bucket, i had to modify the internal dish for the bulb to make it work... that said, nothing beats HID, flat out. just installed them in my dads and brohters bikes as well... pretty much every one i ride with now runs HID. it is not even compareable to the reg bulbs, h4, or harleys LED bulbs...
if you want to try and make it work you can try and tuck the ballast under the tank. or find a HID kit that runs a mirco or mini ballast.
I bought the Custom Dynamics kit and had to send it back. Could not find room for the ballast. relay and transformer. I know the HD LED is a lot more money and not as bright, witch I have now and very happy with it.
The "micro" or thin HID ballasts are not all they're cracked-up to be. Yes, the ballast is thinner, maybe 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick BUT, in addition to the ballast, you have a striker on the power cord to the lamp now. It's sorta like a flourescent starter. I think that's how they slim-down the ballast. They take the striker circuitry out and put it in a separate model about the size of a cig lighter on the cord. So, yes, the ballast is smaller but then you have to deal with hiding this other lump on the cord.
The problem with the HID H-4 set-up on the Dyna is not only dealing with the ballast/striker but the bulb itself. The hi-lo H-4 bulb (sometimes called "bi-xenon") has an electromagnetic solenoid on the back side of it to shuttle the bulb in and out to create a hi and a lo beam by changing the angle of light on the reflector. This solenoid sticks out the backside far enough that I do not believe it will fit inside the stock lamp bucket.
There are ways to accommodate it but they can get rather involved. A deeper bucket or extending the stock bucket with some sheet metal work are options.
From what I know, the HID puts out way-more light than any led at this time. The stock H-D led accessory lamps are, however, plug-and-play.
I use a special ballast that is an all in one but it is small. Unless if you wish to mount the ballast on the side of the frame close to the headlight, the bulb wire that extends from the ballast must be 24". This is what it looks like on my black bike.
