Default turn signal issues

OK, So I go out today and all is fine....
While out, and at a stop light waiting to turn,
I look down the emergency flashers are on.
(Think to myself "that's odd" I know I didn't touch the other switch)
So I hit the switches to turn them off, and they flash brighter.
SO again I hit them to turn them off, and the go out.
Switch on the left turn signal again ... and back to the low lit flashers.
( thinking now, that I must have a bulb out and this is the warning flash for that)
I pull into a auto parts store, and checkout the sigs...
The fronts both flash proper. The rears when switched on either right or left, go into a low light flashing along with the brake light. Emergency flashers work just the rear stop lamp.

So I am now guessing that the emergency fuse or something like that may be the culprit.

By the way I have the HD amber bulbs (1156A) in the rear lamps, they have only the one filament. where the ones in the front have a double filament...

Any help or ideas????

well it ain't the bulbs, and it ain't the fuse.
There is only one fuse for the lights and they all work fine....

So what would cause the rear signals to not flash properly but work when switched on but the fronts do work properly?

there's a wire touching. one of your blinker wires is making contact with the running light wiring, sending the power from the blinkers back feeding through to the running lights. Check your bulb sockets first. then start tracing the wiring back to the molex connectors. Let us know what you find.

Well I started looking behind the sockets, and all was good.
SO I dropped the taillight to look at the connections there...
It was filthy packed full of fine dirt and sediment from washing/ riding in rain what have you...
I cleaned it out and made sure all the connections were still tight.

Fixed it.

So now my question is this, is there supposed to be a gasket around the tail light to stop all this dirt? Seems like it should be, but I don't have one. The tail assembly has a soft padding/ filling on the back of it but nothing around the the red lens of the tail light and the mounting to the bike.

Thanks for the idea of checking behind the sockets, and tracing the wire back.

check your rear turn signal wires where they come thru the fender. If not there, check the wire loom that runs on the inside top of the fender.

There's a foam gasket on the back to keep crap out from the tire. And there's suppose to be a thin gasket between the lens and the back plate. It probably dried out and got tossed by the PO when he changed a bulb. I think you can but this separately from HD or any online distributor.
Also, put some white grease on the base on the bulb before you re-install (only a little, it keeps in from corroding).
