We bought a 2006 Dyna Super Glide Custom this winter for my wife. The original owner was a shorter woman (as is my wife) and they made changes to the bike to fit her. 2.5" shorter rear shocks, lowered, handlebar extentions, shorter seat . . . My wife has been complaining about how hard it is to turn the bike. I finally took it for a ride and agree, the turning and handling is terrible. I am wondering if this is due to the changes made or is this the nature of this model??? Thanks for the input . . .
Super Glides are famous for being one of Harley's best handling bikes . I would have it checked out at a shop . Maybe even something as simple as low tire pressure . Please, don't take that as an insult . Even the best of us over look the simple things sometimes ! Good luck !
Since you're probably going to have to make some changes anyway..
Install an engine stabilizer such as True-Track. In medium to high-speed curves it
makes a LOT of difference in stability and I suspect it also makes a big difference
in extreme braking, .
Install a front fork brace like the Superbrace. It definitely improves steering accuracy.
Lots and lots of threads on both; search for them and see all the comments.
If you lowered it 2.5 inches there isn't enough shock or springs left for the twistys.
I would put the stock length shock and springs back on (if both were changed) and look for a reach seat or handle bars to compensate for a short rider instead of suspension.
I have 2011 SGC and the handling and cornering is excellent. I am not scraping parts and feel like I am leaning as far as I want to. My harley buds have trouble staying with me in the turns.
Lowering the back end 2.5" effects the trail of the front wheel, You should have that looked at.
I did mine and had to raise my fork tubes by 3/8's of an inch in the trees to get the trail back where I needed it to handle properly...........
