An FYI for Dyna Owners, Late models. I was experiencing blown fuel pump fuses, so the search started! After removing the fuse caddy, pulling the ECM connector out ( for accessible space) and looking at the back of wiring, I found my problem. The fuel pump wiring is located under the left side of the upper frame rail, bottom of your tank. It runs the length of that frame and down under to the fuse block. The fuel pump wires and fuel gage wire is run together, but are seperate. If you notice, the jacket of one is shiny (fuel pump) and the other is dull in appearence (fuel gage). Only the shiny jacket at the back of the tank is tied to the frame and the fuel gage wire is not. That fuel gage wire was hanging low enough and rubbing on the top of the back rocker cover bolt. All I did was electrical tape the worn spot and wire tied it up with the fuel pump wire. All is well now
Check your wires to ensure they are not hanging at the back of the tank by the front of your set area.
Also, if you look under your seat, you have a connector that is stretched very tight and going down under toward the engine. This is the rear O2 sensor connector. From vibration, it had worn the outer jacket of the wires completely off, about 3/4 of an inch. This outer jacket is movable, so I slid the jacket down, to find the outer jacket of the 02 sensor wire, exposed! I electrical taped the 02 wire, slid the main jacket back over the wires and taped the outer jacket..
I appreciate the tip. If I ever start blowing fuses ill know how to fix it. I just had my bike apart when I changed pipes and my mechanic re-wired it. He is smart enough to have fixed those issues but ill have a look anyway. An ounce of prevention will get you down the road.
Dang!! At least it was somewhat simple. How many miles do you have on your bike? I just had all my wires out when I installed the PCV and none looked close to chaffing.
Another thing to pay attention to, fuse position #7 & 8 are for spare fuses, the MoCo, trying to save .10 cents, only gives you one (1) mine was in position 8. I blew two fuses that day, so I still wouldn't have gone anywhere! I would have been pissed if I was on the road 50 miles from the next town. I suggest people who read this, check your spare fuse location..
