Default Switchback "ripoff"

Stopped by the local dealer today to see the new "Switchback". They had one in the back not prepped yet but let me check it out. I guess the online pics are deceiving, motor isn't chrome, outer primary, trans cover, cam cover and rocker covers are polished aluminium.

I really don't understand the price point (gouge). Super Glide Custom is still $12,999 (black) with all the aforementioned chrome. The new Dyna is $15,999 (black), $16,400 (color).

I will say the new red is stunning, they got the red right this year, but where exactly is the $3000 difference ? Looks ? lol. Ok, bags & windshield I guess... :-o Everything else is a trade at the factory and you can't tell me the front end and fenders are that much more expensive.

Yep, 103, and the color matched hard bags. Also the new headlamp and shield set up is additional, as well as the fenders as mentioned.

However, as you pointed out:

Superglide $12,999.00
Good Bags $600.00
Good Shield $300.00
Tour Seat $350.00
Total $14,249.00

Add in a 103 kit and labor you might come in $1k less than the Switchback. So really, for $1k you are getting the whole design and color matched bags in a nice package and all removable.

Im just guessing here but seems like in the past when harley introduces a new model line they charge more for it when it is introduced. I wouldn't expect a price reduction anytime soon . Especially if the switchbacks are selling which they are sure to do with the popularity of the dressers and road kings. All seems rather strange to me since I like my dynas stripped down but that is just me.

Again it's just a trade off. Bigger jugs and pistons minus the cost of smaller jugs and pistons for a difference of about zero for the factory.

that is typical harley. Its like buying a 1200 sportster for 3000 dollars more when you can do heads and 1200 pistons and jugs relatively cheap. HD is counting on newer riders with less experience being willing to pony up the extra cash just to "have a harley". They keep the less expensive models for those who have the experience to know they shouldn't charge as much as they do. Im my very humble and one sided opinion they do charge too much for a lot of there bikes. But then again if you just have to have model type so and so most will pay the extra money for it.

And it has "Floorboards" and NOBODY makes a decent setup aftermarket for the Dynas.

The Fat Bob is 15,000 +, so I don't see how it is a ripoff. Also, doesn't it have a FL front end? I priced out a Superglide vs. Fat Bob thinking the same thing. By the time I added the forward controls and the bars and the seat etc. etc., it is easier to just but the one you like or go buy used and make your own for less. The big dissapointment should be the name "Switchback" on something that looks like a mini Road King. When i hear switchback, I think of carving corners. Shouldn't a new model FXDX be called a switchback?
