Some one please tell me what the deal is on the axle sizes. My bud has a 21" wheel off a 2004 fxdwg it has a 3/4 axle. I have a 2005 fxdci and it has a 1" axle. I'm trying to figure out what years/models have the 1" axle so I can pick up a set used wheels. Is it only the 19s that have the 1" or what's the deal? Also I would like to know what size axles are on a 2004 and 2005 fxdwg? This is what I want to do, Put a aftermarket wide glide front end with a 21" wheel on my fxdci. Can I just order a wide glide front end for a 2005 fxdwg, will that fit my 2005 fxdci? Hope all this make sense to you guys!!
It isn't really all that difficult. I believe that the center hole through the hub is the same size and it's just a matter of pressing out the bearings that are the wrong size and installing the correct size in their place. I don't think it is that hard, new bearings are like $60.00 a set. Of ocurse then you need new spacers, axles, etc. that are the right size also.
I could be wrong, god knows it wouldn't be the first, but I think this subject has come up here before.
The hub opening is also 3/4" So it would need drilled out and I did that once with a 19" wheel and I just don't like the idea of it again, so I want the right wheel with a 1" opening.
A note about the front end. Well I was going for a complete front end on mine. But soon found out something changed for the 04 and 05 models in the neck area. Couldn't get an answer as to what. They all listed front ends up to 03 only, for the WG's. So that being said, I am going to do trees and powder coated sliders. Sliders are done, not sure if I'm coating mine or getting new ones.
