Exhaust Flange gasket
Hi all. My first post here. I need to replace the exhaust gasket at the head on my front head (nuts disappeared). I bought a new gasket from a local shop. They said it would fit but when I was testing it for fit I got it to go into the head fine but it does not slide over the part of the pipe that fits into the head. Is it suppose to or am I suppose to just line it up and crush it in? I haven't tried anything yet. I have a 1996 FXDWG (1340cc) with Python pipes. Not sure if they are, I don't see the name anywhere on them. I just recently bought it. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

The gasket does not slip over the pipe. The end of the pipe crushes the gasket into place. Do like buggy said, tighten evenly. Run it a few miles to get it hot, let it cool down and retighten. Use a torque wrench if you can, you don't want to snap off the stud.
And a good way to keep the nuts on is to double nut them.
