Default help installing D&D exhaust!

Trying to install my exhaust and having a hard time getting the header flange in the head. The OD of the header is 1.86" and the ID of the gasket is 1.62". I thought the gasket would at least fit over the header pipe. Is it suppose to crush the gasket? Or did they give me the wrong gasket? Their instructions say it is a "tight" fit but its physically impossible.

The exhaust gasket fits on the lip of the port in the head. It is not supposed to and will not fit over the pipe. The pipe pushes up against the gasket.

Yes, gasket is "crush type" and will form while you torque to spec...take a breather, have a cold one & go re-attack. Sometimes it's best to step away for a bit vs. throwing tools & swearing like a sailor...

understood but the factory header is tappered and the D&D is not so it won't even start go in. the only way would be to crush it. maybe I should try stretching the gasket a little?

If the header flange has a squared off profile, you need the SE exhaust gaskets. If the header flange is somewhat tapered, you get the tapered, standard style gaskets. I use SE gaskets with my Rinehart headers.

I changed out the ones that D&D gave me for the SE ones. Much easier to work with and easier to install.

D&D's require the SE gaskets as stated above.
