The noise is kind of gravelly, and it only occurs when the bike is in neutral. the noise doesn't stop when I pull in the clutch; however, when I drop it into 1st, the noise stops. If I go back to neutral, it doesn't start making the noise until I let out the clutch. If I let out the clutch just until I start to hear the noise, but instead of fully releasing the clutch I quickly pull it back in, it will make the noise for a couple more seconds, but then it stops.
I know the 2006s have trouble with the IPB; mine is no stranger to this issue. In fact, mine has had the IPB replaced before, and the new case and primary with alignment pins was installed at that point.
If it sounds like a metal roller skate wheel dragging on concrete and stops when you drop it in 1st gear...it is your IPB. Better call the MoCo.
Thanks for the reply. Are they still fixing these out of warranty? I am not the original owner, BTW. I figured if it was the IPB I would just have to go the Baker Bearing route. I didn't think the MoCo would do anything for me.
Depends on the dealer you go to...some are still replacing it under warranty, others will give you a hard time. Yup..sounds like the classic IPB symptom....you describe it perfectly.
I'm shocked it's giving you the issue again after having all of it replaced..new case 'n all.
Mine got very loud while riding throughout the winter. I had a local indy guy that ran a shop out of his home, replace mine with the Baker bearing. I didn't want to bother with the dealer and having a stock replacement that would fail again down the road. Nor did I feel like leaving my bike at the stealership for weeks and weeks...while in the peak of riding season. So it was well worth it for me to do the Baker replacement out of my pocket.
Just a thought for you...while it's apart again, have them replace the stator assembly with the new upgraded one. That is a second weakpoint of the 06 Dynas...the mounting bolts slowly back out and one day you'll have a hell of a chewing/grinding noise...the head of the bolt will back out and protrude inside of your stator and start shredding up the wound copper wires. The upgraded part gets rid of that bolt flaw, and while it costs about 220 bucks...since the cover is off...might as well do it.
I was going to live with my IPB noise for the rest of the summer...but my stator bolt decided to back out and ruin a ride I had just left for..turning it into an emergency limp back home.
Damn!!! i JUST started hearing a similar noise... its not that loud but noticed it yesterday. same thing when i put it in gear it goes away...i guess i need an IPB...THAT SUCKS
Nobody in town has the Baker bearing. It will have to be ordered, but I don't have a second car at the moment, and the wife needs the truck for school. How long can I still ride by bike now that the IPB is making noise? I was going car shopping Saturday anyways, but I didn't want to be in the position of needing a car when I bought.
If you go with the Baker bearing you will not have this problem anymore.

Go to a bearing house and get a 6205Z, you will also need a different seal when you change it over. They should be able to easily find a seal to match the bearing using the bore and shaft sizes the bearing specs out for. I'd give you the seal number but I don't remember it, what I can tell you is it is a metric seal and will be rubber coated.
Anyone got the # for the seal.I will be pulling the primary next week and probably should replace the baker seal since it will be apart. Sorry for jumping your thread.

A little research tells me it should be a 25 52 7. The metric seal part numbers are their specs, this one is 25mm shaft x 52mm bore x 7mm wide. Again the seal will be fully coated in rubber.
