I just had mine replaced. I take it that is the same part that the MOCO said no longer needed to be replaced. Mine did not even make it to 15,000 miles. My failed at 8500. Are they replacing it with the same part or an improved one? I do not want to go through this every year. The dealer did a good job getting my bike back. They had it for 1.5 days.
I had an inner bearing race failure on my 06 Dyna Street Bob at 7500 miles back in May of 06. It is in the shop again to have the same bearing replaced on 11-7-06 and still waiting for parts. I asked service dept to check & see if this is the same thing they replaced before and it is. They got tech out to explain and he said that theretaining snap ring has to be in exact location or it blocks of oil hole to bearing causing failure, he said factory had advised them to make sure it was installed right, he said when mine was repaired the first time they probably hadn't been notified of what was causing it. My bike has 15000 miles on it now. First time, primary became very noisy, this time started to have severe vibration you could feel through foot pegs all the way up to handlebars, especially when above 70 mph in 6th gear. Here is part #34091-06. I run Syn 3 & have all services done at dealer. Hope this helps.
i cant belive it every time i log on to this sight i read about someone having a problem with the inner berring race .dont get me wrong guys im not complaining about the owners who post about this problem but the fact that im sure no one at the harley davidson division comes on this sight to read about the problems that some owners are having . dose anyone have info on how to contac the right people at harley about so many people having this problem. it p--- me off that so many owners have had to have there motors toor apart with low millage and the agrivationandangisity knowing that the rest of us have that to look forward to in the future .for$18,000 my bike should not have to have the motor toor apart at 7,000, 9,000 ,11,000 miles. i could have bought a car with 10 year warranty for $18,000 im sorry for bitching but i just hate the fact that i have that to worry about along with all the outher problems that im sure everyone else have in there life. good night im going to bed but im sure i wont be able to sleep %^^&**((&^$%$
The actual number of bearing failures is miniscule. For most of y'all, just go ride the things and don't worry about it. Yep, there will be some failures asalways when talking mechanical doo-dads. From what I come in contact with riding in a group where all kinds of bikes are represented, HD quality seems above the norm. And on the bikes that get ridden the most miles, HDs are definitely at the top end of the quality list, including Gold Wings.
what kind of noises where you guys getting .. i have a sound i cant track down when i get on it hard it sounds like 2 peices of metal rubbing end to end i have checked everything but it only does it in gear, moving, when throttling hard ,
Is the thinking now that the failed bearings are due to the circlip being installed wrongly sometimesi.e. covering the oilway? Maybe it's just one guy in the factory who missed the point?
