Tomorrow is the day I scheduled for the SE tuner install and subsequent dyno (SE stage 1 A/C - V&H BR 2 into 2 are my performance mods so far) for my 2011 FXDC at the dealer.
I scheduled this appointment on July 2. The Service Manager informed me late yesterday that they would like my bike tonight before they close and it will be 3 to 5 days before I see it again. I know it takes a bit of time to get the bike dialed in on the dyno, but even three days sounds long to me? I was expecting it to be there for the day but I never asked (my bad, I know) nor was I informed about the duration my scoot would be there.
Am I being unreasonable if I tell the dealer I want the bike back before Monday close of business, or I will go another route for a tuner??
Far too long, especially after waiting a month! Its an hour's work. I can't imagine what they are going to do for 3-5 days - they going on holiday on it?
Tell them to stick it and take it somewhere that wants the business.
Your combo is pretty common so they should have a map already available. They might have to fine tune it but it should only take an hour. Ask for a copy of the dyno sheet and look at the total # of runs along with the time they started and finished. That way you can see just how much time they spent tuning your bike in case they feel the need to hit you with a big bill.
Do it yourself. Install the pipes, and I hope you don't have the street legal only version of the tuner. If you do. Return it and buy a TTS or something that will allow you to tune your bike out of EPA standards.
I tuned my own bike, and it took me about 3 hours or less of riding time to get it the way I wanted it.
You'll need tools to exchange the exhaust, SE Cable and Tuning Software. Then a place you can cruise safely at slow to WOT. I've had my bike on the Dyno twice at the dealers. Each time it came out farting and popping. I spent the $60 bucks for a cable and DVD, and then did it myself. Now my plugs are nice and tan, my mpg city is 40-42 and hwy is 46ish.
Zero pop and farting on decel, and it just runs better with my tune. I hope they get you right. Honestly though. I figure most are just loading base maps, running a sheet for people with 3 to 5 runs, and taking the $400.00 for 30 minutes work. They don't tune your bike. They quasi-tune your bike.
I would call Fuelmoto and order DynoJet's Power vision. Tell Jamie at Fuel moto what your mods are and he will give you a map to make your bike run perfect. You flash your ecm - takes about 2 mins and your done. And if you do additional mods - you reflash the ecm again. The power vision is about $450 and zero labor charge. You'll save time and money and the bike will run great!

It will also save your original ECM calibrations so if you need to take it back to the shop you can reload it back to stock.
Buy the power vision, install the exhaust yourself. Keep you stock exhaust, and save your original ECM cal. Then once you have the V&H exhaust on you load the map for that setup.
Unhook the power vision, and voila! Done. I think you can get the basic auto-tune application also which would allow you to adjust your calibration some. If you are getting the orange Street Tuner from Harley, I think you should think twice, and go with another solution.
I have the Super Tuner, and it works great for me. If I by a new Harley in the future. I will be buying a TTS/PowerVision, etc. The street legal tuner from Harley isn't worth it. It can only be loaded at the dealer, and will only accept EPA calibrations. BOOOOO!
My dealer said if i get the SE Tuner it would be 4-6hr of dyno tuning needed. So i bought the TTS, less than buying the SE tuner, and had it dyno tuned in 2 hrs. If i were to do it all over again i would of bought the Power Vision Tuner. From what i have read about it it is very user friendly. The TTS takes some brain cells to tune it. I had the power commander 5 before the TTS and that was a piece of cake. Not to mention fuel moto was great for help. TTS i think lacks on the technical support that you can get from Fuel moto buying the PCV or Power Vision.
I have to disagree. Mr. Cole of MasterTune TTS is more than willing to help. He is also the original developer of the HD race tuner I.e. Super Tuner.
He has helped me with the Harley tuner. I just think he isn't as active on this forum as he is another.
