I've never noticed any clicking sound when I first turn it on... not that I've been listening for it, and usually have my helmet on by then. Probably there though.
I'll make sure I give it time in the future.
Fast clicking...more of a hum, really. Definitely audible. Actually reminds me of my old '61 E-type Jag, which also had an electric fuel pump. You'll know it when you hear it.
When I first turn on the igniton you can hear the fuel pump priming, its really loud (almost a grating sound) if the bike hasnt been used for a few days.
Hav'nt noticed the engine light coming on though,
although I'm rather methodical when starting the bike and not normaly in a rush.
I do however, sometimes forget to use the kill switch when I stop the motor,I turn it off by key, does'nt seem to have caused any problems though.

That practice has caused a problem with a few guys on this forum. I did it once with no issue but there are a few posts of guys throwing codes doing that as well. My dealer was very specific and ran me through starting this bike 3 times. I just thought that maybe I looked really stupid shopping for a motorcycle in a snow storm....
Funny, my dealer did a great walk-through with me, and even though my bike is carbed, he said to wait until the light went off. Now that I have read the posts about this, it makes me wonder if he says that for every bike. I wondered why I would have to wait, but this is my first big twin, so I didn't know. I still wait though - part of my starting routine...
