These are taken about 4 hours after spraying. The wrinkling has changed extremely well. I can't wait to see it in the morning after it loses the "shinyness."
That really looks nice. can you spray plastic parts withe VHT minus using the oven and get the same results?
You will not get the exact same results. Curing it in the oven tightens up the wrinkle pattern quite a bit. It also makes it have a more durable finish. However, it will still come out great without curing it. You just need to make sure you give it 24-48 hours without touching it at all. And spraying it in the correct temperature range (outdoor temperature) is more important if you are not curing it.
Any trick to getting it to not "flatten" ...I sprayed a primary - after prep/clean/etc and it appeared to "slide" (not run) and get quite textured on the face, but failed to develop texture on the sloping areas; actually got glossy.
I must have put 10+ coats on trying to get it to start.
I have read a few different post on the VTH and I am sold on the wrinkle black but I am still curious how there flat and gloss black paints work for people. If anyone with experience with the VTH gloss or flat black could post there opinions I would appreciate it. Thanks.
I have painted my horn cover, belt cover, console, and shift and brake levers with the VHT Wrinkle Black. I put on 3 coats per the can instructions with 5 minute intervals. After the 3rd coat I give it about 15-20 minutes once it starts to wrinkle and I know it is wrinkling all over. I then move it directly to the oven at 200 for an hour. This makes the wrinkle very tight and and almost identical to the HD wrinkle. The trick is to build a stand or hang by wires and make sure it fits in the oven before you start painting. You want to be able to move the part without touching the paint. I use a 3M ScotchBrite Roloc disc on my right angle air grinder to prep the surface. Give it a good brushed look. Then clean with soap and water and wipe down with Acetone/Denatured Alcohol/Laquer Thinner, etc. I cant be happier with this paint and the it looks factory if not professionally done. I have used the VHT chassis satin black and it looks great. It takes a good while to dry, even in direct sun but the results are stunning. I would use it again on chassis parts or other things that I want in satin black.
Is the console stamped aluminum or steel? It looks real good. My console has lost the new look in 5 years and I have been thinking of painting it or polishing it.
