Another possible weak connection to the EFI system is the System Relay. Since the problem is intermittant, try first to just pull it out then reinstall to remake the connections. They are also not that exspensive to replace. I carry a spare..........
Get a tube if dielectric grease and as you check connections, grease them.
As far as bugs go, get a bottle of medicinal peroxide from the Walmart and a small sprayer. Spray the bugs, the peroxide works on protein, they will foam and off them come...no damage to paint or plastic.
I recently had the same issue with my '08 Fat Bob.
The problem with my bike was the stator. I used the service manual and the electrical diagnostic manual to troubleshoot the voltage regulator and the stator. Regulator was fine but the stator was shot.
Stator Check
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. See Figure 1-17. Connect an ohmmeter.
a. Disconnect voltage regulator connector from alternator
stator wiring.
b. Insert one ohmmeter lead into a stator connector
socket.
c. Attach the other lead to a suitable ground.
3. Test for continuity with ohmmeter set to the ohms scale.
a. A good stator will show no continuity (open circuit)
between any stator sockets and ground.
b. Any other reading indicates a grounded stator which
must be replaced.
4. See Figure 1-18. Check resistance across stator sockets
1-2, 2-3 and 3-1.
5. Test for resistance with ohmmeter set on the ohms scale.
a. Resistance across all the stator sockets should be
0.1-0.2 ohms.
b. If the resistance is higher, the stator is damaged and
must be replaced.
c. If resistance is lower, this could indicate an internal
short between the windings.
Lost my stater as well a few weeks ago returning from a trip to Ohio. Battery trouble light came on and the bike wouldn't start again when I pulled over in the midst of a thunderstorm to put on my rain gear. Luckily I was a half mile from an auto parts store, I bought a cheap battery and installed it in the rain, it got me fifty miles to the dealer in Little Rock, where I discovered my stater was shot. I'll never forget the smell when the primary was opened up! They didn't have one in stock anywhere in Little Rock (is that BS or what?), but luckily I had made it there just fifteen minutes before the cutoff time to overnight one. In 25 hours I was back on the road. I would have made the trip home in two days, but for this. I didn't expect the stater to go out in 27,000 miles. Maybe I should have.
Got a 2012 Road King Classic its in the shop now its has left me on the side of the road twice .Tech was performing test when I left every thing seems to be coming back ok Just very frustraiting
PS. Another thing that came to mind is that these codes came up the first ride after pressure washing the bike.
Don't ever pressure-wash your bike! Not even at a car wash!
That opens a whole new can of worms with your electrical system by means of water intrusion into areas that may have you chasing your tail.
The closest thing you should get to a pressure wash is, if you get caught out in the rain, unless you're planning on a complete tear-down of your electrical system.
BTW, dilectric compound is your friend.
Best wishes....Tim(HT)
