Default Ape hangers, can't keep tight.

Can we revisit the "tricks" for keeping 16" apes tight on my 04 lowrider? I have heard about shimming with aluminum from a coke can, using a punch and glueing a couple BB's then snugging them down. Can anyone else chime in on this? I have the poly bushings but I think the one piece clamp on my lowrider needs a little help?? Thanks in advance.

I assume the part of the bars that sits in the risers is not knurled?

If your riser bolts do not go all the way through the bottom clamp it's possible that your bolts are a tad too long and are bottoming out.
The beer can trick does work, as does wet sandpaper.

All three methods will work. Dont make the mistake of using a ball bearing in place of a BB. End result in that one is a cracked top clamp over time. I use the punch method with 16's. I've come too close to cutting off a finger when hacking a beer can.

Punch worked wonders for mine too. Tried various methods of shimming to no avail.

A piece of an inner tube has worked well for me on several different bikes.

This is your chance to get creative... innovate a fix. Rubber bands? Bread twisty ties? Electrical tape? Beer can?

Drill and tap the riser and use a grub screw

inner tube helped me , but if I was tired and really hanging on the bars , a big bump would move them. I switched to emery cloth a while back ( rough side to the risers and yes my bars are knurled) , pretty sure I could do chin ups on them and they wont budge.
