Default road trip tips

I am going on 2200 mile road trip starting thursday and wanted any last minute tips on things I should look over.
So far I have Put new rubber front and back, new plugs and wires, changed all of the fluids, adjusted all of my cables, took it to my indy shop for a safety inspection and packed more than enough tools.

Anything im missing?

Bringing tools along and having the bike checked over real good before you leave sounds like a great way to start your trip. Cross your fingers, bring a grimlin bell and some clean underwear and you should be good to go

Raingear and windshield.

Took a "short" road trip (under 1000 mi round trip) to DC for Rolling Thunder 2010. Ran into a hell of a thunder storm on my Dyna SG with no windshield, FroggToggs rain suit and a half helmet.

The rain stung like june bugs. The rain hit my face and chest and accumulated in my crotch. The FroggToggs leaked at the crotch and melted on my pipes. My boots were soaked through to my socks.

Lesson learned: 1) Get a good rain suit with boot covers 2) Windshield will save you a lot of pain 3) Pack the half helmet and wear a full coverage till you get there.

Good luck.

Just got back from Sturgis - 2,490 miles round trip. As the poster above said - a good windshield, a good rain suit with boot covers (my Cabela's suit keep me dry, but the rain ran down the back of leg into my boots), octane boost (remote towns don't have 91+ octane), and some good ear-buds and tunes.

Oh, and use gasoline - NOT diesel. Long story, but a riding buddy nearly learned that lesson the hard way.

Be safe and enjoy the ride.

sounds like your set mechanically, dont forget to take care of yourself.

everyone has there own way of doing things, but here is my gear set up:

Ballistic jacket, FF helmet, Camel back w/2L of water on my back, Boots, Gloves, long pants, ear plugs, (I wear kevlar jeans but reg jeans are ok also).

I wear all the gear when I am on the highway, aside from the obvious safety reasons, I also belive in good hydration dont think that you can just drink a bottle of water at every gas stop and be ok.

I just recently got back from a trip 1800 miles and my system works great, I arrive at my hotel fresh, not dehydrated, not sun burnt (you may belong to the bandana and tank top wearing riding gear group if so good luck)

this is what I do the bike will be rock solid that would be the least of my concerns given proper maintiance.

Have a nice and safe trip... my advice would be to privilege tiniest roads on a map...

Ciao.

Stefano.
