Air filtration is an important issue if you plan on riding the bike. Maybe for drag bikes that are being rebuilt every few weeks it's okay, but not daily drivers or even week-end cruisers. Use an air filter by all means!

*Not legal for sales or use on pollution controlled vehicles
*No filtration element included or available

Without a filter dust and sand particles or even bigger things get sucked into your intake and then work their way through your engine, sometimes rather violently and every great once in a while they even cause a really cool light show of fire, sparks, and metal. You know that feeling ya get being at the beach all day and the sand seems to have gotten into everything...............well that's your engine with no air filter after a couple of hundred miles.

Oddly enough sand is apparently not a good lubricant when jammed between two metal surfaces being slammed back and forth by a flammable mixture that was mechanically forced to combust inside an enclosed space. Nor is it a fuel system friendly additive.

Don't do it, some manufacturers make a velocity stack with an air filter hidden inside to create the velocity stack look if thats what your looking for. Otherwise you want a filter by all means, just as the guys above have said it could cause a world of issues.

my buddy runs one on his 88ci, never had a problem, except when they went on vacation at the river and it flooded out that morning..he woke up to find his bike underwater. he flushed it out and it ran great ever since. to each is their own.

Agree don't do it! I'm running an exposed filter and I clean & oil it twice a month and it's usually pretty dirty. Just imagine all that dirt going inside your motor.
