Well everything is approved through the bank, title I transferred, and I'm picking it up September 12th.
I got a 2003 Dyna Super Glide for 5k. The bike has 8000 on it, and has been parked for about 2 years. I purchased it from my District Manager, who was willed it from his father. The bike has been started and rode around the block about 2x/ month. It will need tires, which are already on order(D401's).
I'm coming from a VTX 1800, so there will be a little adjustment period. I purchased a HD shop manual and was planning on doing the 10,000 Mile Service according to the book. Kind of excited to work on a bike with something other than just metric tools!!

Any one have any other advice on what to do service wise(or comfort wise)?!?
I appreciate any advice!!

Do the standard three hole service, lube the cables and I would change the brake fluid if its never been done.
I have a couple of friends with a VTX and no matter what pipes you put on it never sounds good.

Congratulations!

I would suggest that you cancel the Dunlops and put a set of Metzeler ME880s on there...they are a much better tire.

They handle tar snakes and cracks so much better than the Dunlops that my bike came with.

I had them on my last bike, a Suzuki Volusia 800 and knew that when my HD needed tires, the ME 880s were going on.

Yeah, the X was a good bike. Good bottom to mid power, fairly smooth on the road. But for someone wanting to personalize a bike that was only made for 8 years, it's a bit harder.
The sound, I always compared, was top fuel dragster versus NASCAR.
And I can't WAIT for that HD thump.

welcome & congrats on the new bike!

service wise: your on the right track with the service manual, do as much as you can yourself & avoid the stealerships. Be sure and hang on to that 10mm wrench, probably the only one your going to need (battery terminals) & get your self a decent set of torqx & allen wrenchs.

comfort wise: the stock seats and rear suspension suck
