Looks like your helper is dialed in and ready to get the bike serviced. Keep an eye on him though, he looks like the type to take an extended test ride post service!

Harley used to threaten to void your warranty if you did any service yourself during the life of the warranty on the bike. May not be legal at all, but that is what they used to do.
The only way they can get away with that is if the service was free of charge and even then I have my doubts they could deny warranty. My question for them is what do they consider to be abuse and how can they tell at the service if it has been abused??

A tool you are going to need is a good lift. I know of 2 companies that make lifts in the USA: J&S Jacks(Wis) and Pitbull(Tenn). Both companies make high quality lifts and come with a lifetime warranty, no matter who the owner is (IOW: it transfers). The other, less expensive lifts, are products mostly made in China or who knows where? If you can't afford a brand-new USA-made lift, look for used.....ebay/craigslist/MC forum classifieds. I found a J&S for $200 w/extras by searching just before I was about to buy a new one. (Just my 2-cents)

I'm all for always buying made in the USA when possible, but I received the Craftsmen bike lift as a gift and it has been excellent.

Only problem is to jack up my Iron, I have to pull the rear tire up on a 1" board (its very low), but that isn't really the fault of the jack, this bike is slammed from the factory.

Good info! I was just about to pose the question on a good lift to buy.

Thanks

Spend the $49 on Ebay for the HD Service Manual for you bike and it will pay for itself the very first time you do your own work. It's simple to work on and feels great knowing some douchebag dealer is not stealing your hard earned money by doing easy work.

I tore my bike apart myself when I blacked-it out and only used the service manual as my guide. No problems!

Going to go and get a atv jack from sears along with my needed tools for the job.
I change my engine oil every 2500 miles, and tranny and primary every 5000 miles. If you change you fluids regularily and frequently you can just use NON synthetic fluids.

My Wide Glide is coming up on it's 20K service and I'll probably take it into the dealer for that just because changing the fork oil seems like a royal pain in the ****. Other than that, I've done all the service myself. Only thing someone else has touched the bike for was a rear tire change and a warranty service because two of the exhaust bracket bolts sheered off in the trans case.
