I found out today that my wiring (at the very least the wiring that goes to the fuel pump) has corroded beyond repair - in less than two years. Luckily my dealer is saying they're going to get it covered under warranty (and why wouldn't it be - the bike is 22 months on the road).
Now I live three blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, and my warranty is done in a couple months, I'd like to take precautions to try and prevent this from happening - or at least delaying the inevitable as long as possible. Any one got tips to protect the wiring? And why is it the INSULATION and factory wire wrap seems inadequate to the job?
These guys carry a lot of different products for abrasion resistance, heat protection, ect. Joe uses them, and I have ordered sleeving to protect the lower part of clutch cables and wiring into and under the frame. Pretty cheap, just make sure you order enough to make it worth the shipping.
are you referring to the wire bundle that sneaks up from the backbone, into the dash -or- from the dash to the pump (inside the tank).
SC,
The guys at the dealership didn't specify which bundle on the phone - but I will get specifics when I pick it up. Considering it's the fuel pump not firing up I would assume (I know I shouldn't) it is the bundle that runs to the pump. Nothing else seems affected. head and tail lights work, dash lights, speedo etc and it cranks so it really seems to be isolated to that specific bundle.
They are also saying I should get a cover to keep the water off, but It always seems to me that is a way to concentrate the moisture around the bike so it seems the negatives and positives offset each other - especially in my environment of beach air.
