Default Enough cable length...?

I have a question for anyone who's familiar with swapping out the bars from a FXD's stock bars to a set of 12" rise mini apes.

I got a used '07 FXD a couple months back and I have a hunch the previous owner took off a set of taller bars before trading in, but was maybe too lazy to change out to the shorter clutch cable.

I have a set of 12" bars that I want to put on and it seems like I have enough cable to reach, but I don't want to get halfway through the job and find out the hard way that I need to get a +6 or something. I'll attach a pic so you can get an idea of what I'm working with and if anyone with experience doing this could let me know whether or not I'm good to go with what I've got, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for any help,
Jimmy

The stock bars on your year should be the buck horn style i believe, judging by you picture it does appear to have enough slack to go to the mini's...also have to look at your throttle cables wiring and front brake, and insure they have enough slack to go the extra height as well

Thanks for the reassuring post on the clutch cable. I think the throttle/idle cables might just make it and I've been told they stash more than enough control wires in the frame to make it.

But I know I will need to swap out the front brake line. It fits just perfect right now, so I'm currently looking for anyone selling their take-off from a SB or something similar as a replacement and I'll probably get the two for the throttle, just to be safe.

Cheers,
Jimmy

If you have a FXD and not a FXDC, you need to go 6 over all the way around. If you rebend the throttle and idle cables, it will get close, but thats all. Even if you do get them on, you wont be able to turn your bars to the left without overstressing the cables. You will need to change the clutch cable, unless you want to rock the mini apes back into your lap. If I remember correctly, 46" (plus fittings) is what you need for the front brake. Dont even think about bending the banjo, youre asking for trouble.

The FXD has the shortest cables of all BT's
The only thing you have enough of is wiring

Good post.

You can bend the banjo's tubing, I've done it and so have others, but you have to be very careful so that you don't kink it. It is a bit soft, so allows some bending and rebending, but one mistake and it will be toast.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know.
