The Dyna Manual for my 2011 FXDC says on page 22 in Table 11:
oil tank with filter takes 3 quarts
trans takes 1 quart
chaincase also takes 1 quart
But on page 84 item 7 under "Changing Oil and Filter" says use 2.5 quarts of oil for capacity refill.
How much should go back into each hole for a three bucket change?

 

1 qt. in the trans 1qt. in the primary.. and start with 2.5 qts. in the crank case,, run it then check it,,,, 3 qts. is only for the first fill with a dry motor

 

On a drain and refill use 2-1/2 qts, recheck level when bike is at operating temp.

Translation: Every time you change your oil 1/2 qt. of dirty oil remains in the engine

 

Look on the bright side, after 4 oil changes you only have to buy 4 qts........

 

yup i agree 3 is dry, if you look up the spec it says 2.5wet / 3dry
