2004 dyna cafe racer
I finally have my '04 Dyna FXDX cafe racer on the road. I want to post the pics, for your entertainment or ridicule, but I do not yet have enough posts for that privilage.
It is not finished, but it is rideable. The '81 BMW gas tank (custom tank bottom to fit the Dyna backbone)provides 6 gallons (four main, two reserve). The right angle air cleaner manifold allows my right leg to stay close to the bike, and not expose my right knee to odd angles. I did away with the handlebar risers, and fabricated twin brackets that bolt to the top tripple tree; the hand controls clamp to that for a nice forward lean angle. I relocated the foot pegs 3 1/2 inches rearward to get my feet under my rear end and make it easier to stand on the pegs for bumps. I installed a True-Track and front fork brace, and the bike absolutely hangs with the rice grinders in the twisties.
My attempt at seat fabrication failed, and I am on my 3d try. I also had electrical problem swith the LED tail lights and modified rear fender, so I put the stock fender and lights back on. It turns out the problem was not with the wiring harness I made. The fuze terminals has corroded in the eight months it took me to get the bike on the road.
As soon as I can purchase a rear brake setup from a Ducati or KTM or Buell, I will relocate the rear brake master cylendar and install a center stand (yep, a center stand on a Dyna). Hopefully I will have enough posts by that time to show the design.
If anyone is interested in seeing pictures, send me a message with an email address. Or, ask a moderator to give me posting permissions. I believe I have enough to contribute to the forum to warrant that privilage.

I will go back and read the rules. i seem to remember that a new member needed 25 posts before they could post pics. I tried using the attachment function, but received a message stating that I did not have permissions.
I will try that linking to another sight. I am not very savy about using the full functionlity of the internet. I also have to get some file compression software; my pics are all over 3MB.
I agree that a Sportster is a much better platform for a cafe racer due to its better power to its lighter weight, but I just like the Dynas.

Wow, that's pretty. Not so much a fan of the short tail section but looks very cool overall. I'm really interested in how you relocated the mid controls - REALLY! How about some close up photos and how you did that with what parts?
...that loud bang you just heard... yeah, that was my jaw hitting the floor!
It's not my cup of tea, but hell, I know a good looking bike when I see one. I can honestly say I've never seen that done before and it was done very well.
I'm sure if you posted some more pictures, they wouldn't go unappreciated.
