Default Rush slip on install

I tried to search for this and didn't find the answer I was looking for, sorry if it's been asked and answered. I've actually looked all over the web with no success...

I have an '07 FXD and I recently got a used pair of Rush slip on pipes and I wanted to install them this weekend. I have been told several times that all I need to do is take off the stock mufflers and put on the new ones.

Tonight when I looked in my service manual, I noticed it's telling me to take off the whole exhaust (headers and all), take off the mufflers, then put it all back together.

Can anyone please tell me the correct method?

Thanks for the help,
Jimmy

Just remove the stock mufflers, clean off any crud on the end of the header pipe, install the slip on's, and torque them down. I used new clamps, but others have re-used their old ones without issue. I think you need to torque them to 65 ft lbs if I'm not mistaken.

Exacly, though the torque is 45 to 60 lbs. ( Or in my case whatever it takes to stop leaking..: )

agree w the above, do NOT take the head pipes off, unbolt the rear mounts, and then the clamps and slide them off, thats it.
