Default Help with gps install

I am putting on a gps on my 2011 fat bob. Any reason why I can't splice into the positive and negative headlight wires for the gps power?

It's your bike, do whatever the hell you want. I ran my wire down to the accessory fuse but the headlight would probably be just as good and maybe easier.

Default Wiring

You just have to be sure the headlight wires you tap into can carry the load of the light plus the GPS. The accessory connector under the seat is switched and has no load on it...

i ran an 12v acc outlet to my accessory fuse and ran wire under gas tank and zip tied to harness just behind triple tree. used a ram mount and regular car plug for my tomtom go720. can also charge cell phone and ipods while on road. 09 FXDC

I wouldnt think that gps would draw much power at all. I'd consider making the quick and easy connection BUT then again if something goes wrong on the road you could be without a headlight. Been without a headlight once and it wasn't fun. Haha.

Considering the available accessory power both under the seat and at the neck into the bars, I would not run it off of a wire that is dedicated to something as important as your headlight. As mentioned it really sucks when it goes out at night.

Good advice, I just have to find the accessory fuse. Anyone have a picture or explanation for a dummy like me?

Pull the cover off your fuse box and look in your owners manual.
