So I've read good and bad things about Kuryakyn products. I decided to get a set of Offset Highway Pegs, so I placed my order through my favorite online company, waited patiently, and found the package at my house today after work. I open them up, and what do I find? A very noticeable pit in the chrome, likely due to contamination prior to plating. I consider this a manufacturing defect (obviously), and have sent an email to the company I purchased them from asking how they handle these sorts of issues.
Anyone else have problems with Kuryakyn? This is my first purchase of one of their products, and probably my last.
P.S. Product says Made In Korea. Now I don't want to hear people rant about overseas production, just whether or not Kuryakyn products have a history of quality issues. Thanks.
I am not to keen on their products in general, although I have found one or two items in their stuff that is OK. Just not a lot of faith in their stuff.
I have some Kury parts on my bike, they have been identical to the items I bought from J.C.Whitney and no-name stuff from J&P. The same "quality", match and interchangeability. In fact many other name brand stuff is about the same or worse. It all seems to be made in Korea, China, Indonesia, Mexico or some other country outside the US.
I've had chrome peel off (Custom Chrome), backing plates crack out (Ness), misaligned risers (Bikers Choice) and bolts snap off of some of the other brands.
Genuine HD parts and accessories, in general, seem to be higher quality, though they also seem to be made outside the US.
Just chase the threads on all questionable fasteners at the first sign of binding or before even using them. The chromed ones are especially prone binding before they can be tightened. They are weak, but are also often times specialty bolts and can be hard to find replacements for.
Chrome flaking is a sign of poor quality. You can't predict it or prevent it. All you can do is try to keep the rust out.
I'm guilty of too often price shopping for parts, it's saved me hundreds to thousands of dollars, but I get what I pay for and just accept the good with the bad. My barn loft has plastic storage bins of the bad.
