As it gets colder and I get older I start thinking of heated jackets/gloves etc. Any one here run these? Any recommendations? How does the wiring generally work? Any trouble with the alternator keeping up?

I run Gerbing G3 gloves but where I differ is I put the plug at the front of the seat between the tank and seat. Been wearing them for 3 years every winter. Worth every penny!!! Next will be a jacket liner. Tourmaster makes good gloves too.

I am considering heated gear this year myself. Bought my wife some last year and a few of the couples we ride with all have it. My understanding is the best overall heated gear is Gerbing, they are also the company that makes the HD heated gear. I will probably go with the heated jacket liner myself.

Heated Gear
I have a Gerbing heated jacket liner and two pair of gloves.

The alternator on my bike doesn't have any problems whatsoever. You don't plug anything in until you have the bike running, so you don't drain the battery.

Gerbings going on 10 years... Jacket & gloves, but used with my sport bike daily-drivers not the H-D. Combined with other winter gear, I'm good down to 10°F for my 30 min 6am daily commute in the winter here in Hotlanta, GA. Yeah, it gets that cold...

Newer stuff with dual control Heatroller is the ticket: allows you to set jacket heat separately from gloves, noting the gloves need a lot more juice than the jacket when it get below freezing. Had my '00 jacket re-wired by Gerbings for $25 two-years ago: money well spent.

HD gloves, Gerbing's jacket liner, Tourmaster pant liner, all work great. Only wore the pant liners one time, 350 miles in snow, sleet and rain. Glad I had them. Next on the list are heated socks. Call me a pu$$y, but I ride year round in the northwest.

I run heated gear. Wiring is simple. I like to get moving before I start pumping the heat and turn it down when moving slower. The filaments get very hot and can burn if not careful. I use a thermostat for gloves and pants. Thinking of doing jacket, but haven't decided yet.

Interesting thread.

I ride year round and quite a bit of that is in the 30's & 40's during the winter. Always used just layers, but at 53 might get some gloves and a jacket liner.

Never wanted to mess with the wires...but it might be easier than layering up.

My ol lady does too. It has no effect on your charging system and it's a pretty straight forward hook up. She rides pretty cozzy with it. I'd say if that's what ya need go for it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
