I've just finished to install an old LePera solo seat (from a 1979 Shovel ) on my 2005 Dyna

only two days of work to imagine and create the supports.

with two new 11" ( instead of the OEM 13" FXDX ...) --> I prefer this new look

I like the old time Hot-Rod look of the spring seats.
Do you guys feel like your going to fly off the end end when you nail the gas? I rode a freinds Cross-Bones acouple of times and was sliding around way to much to feel safe on it. I love looks of the solo spring seat on the Cross-Bones but I would be looking for a better seat to keep me in place. I was even sliding side to side and from front to back on that thing. At one point I though I was riding a jet ski.
Maybe one with a narrower seat would be the way to go for me.

[QUOTE=mecompco;8888916]OK, here's the best I can do till it stops raining. Looks pretty good, I think!

Love the look of the seat - I just put on a Mustang solo and am thinking of going springer now...damn you..lol.

I may think differently after I've ridden it (supposed to be really nice this weekend so hope to put on two or three hundred miles) but I've not been able to get that look out of my head since I saw it.

I was looking hard at the Mustang, and it's probably more comfortable but just had to try the springer. Got an awesome deal on the seat in the classifieds that I couldn't pass up. It really changes the look of the whole bike and I really love the old school look.

That is why I took all the padding off the seat pan and re-did the seat with 1/2" pad and saddle leather. It is like two cupped hands holding your bum in place. Mine turned out to be more comfortable than the smaller solo seat, and 100 times better than the road pillows they call motorcycle seats.

Your mileage may vary.

So put about 250 miles on Sunday, about six hours of saddle time. There's some good news and some not-so-good.

The good:

Looks bitchin'!

Solo Spring Saddle-imag0062.jpg

Puts me up a little higher and forward--got rid of at least 90% of the left shoulder (has bothered me since my teens) and hand/wrist (carpel tunnel in right hand) discomfort I have with the stock seat.

The not-so-good:

My bony *** was still feeling bruised the next day. The seat is quite comfy for a while, but it gets hard pretty quickly. I guess I need to toughen up my butt or find some sort of pad for longer rides. I do like that I can slide back easily to stretch out but I think part of the problem is that it is pretty narrow so doesn't spread the weight out much.

I'm going to do my best to live with it!

Hummm. I have to say that looks pretty cool. In another post I installed a similar spring solo seat and didn't install the springs. I just hard mounted it as shown in my sig pic. After seeing the options in this thread I have concluded two things. First, I really do not like the clothes pin style springs (no offense guys, JMHO) as much as I first thought. BUT, I do like the coil spring look. Your setup really does work well. Once again, this forum has given me more to consider than I expected.
