I've built a 100hp Sporty (44CV), a 100hp 95inch TC (40CV) and presently have a lot of miles on a 111hp/117tq 103 inch TC (51CV)...all with STOCK rejetted CV carbs...they work excellent. When I built my first, I knew a couple of tuners/shop owners personally; two are M/C instructors and sorry to start an argument but here's the opinions they gave me:
1. The S&S are race-based carbs that are 1 step up from a gas soaked rag...easy to adjust but that's about it
2. Most aftermarket shops will diss the CV simply 'cause there's no money in it for them; they are only available from Screamin Eagle
3. Other carbs work but at large expense for little to no improvement
4. All tuning of CV's I've used can be accomplished with stock parts; no aftermarket spindle-dorfin add ons or jets were used.....
Wow, where are all the S&S guys.

oh we are here but a lot of these threads always turn into a cv vs mikuni and S&S is a dinosaur. personally S&S imo performs just as well as a jap carb...maybe not as smooth as a mikuni , but is more than capable of being an awesome carb .
