My 2005 Low Rider has always had a hesitation when starting. I bought it used
in 2006 with 5k miles. It always starts, its just annoying. I recently discovered it
only does this on the first start after the key is turned on. If I flip the kill switch
off and back on then restart without turning the key off it doesn't hesitate when
starting.
Anybody ever seen/heard anything like this.
BTW it is injected.
My 07 Street Bob does the same thing. I always just shut the bike off with run switch then turn the key off. Then when you start it cut the key on flip the run switch and start switch at same time and that cures it. Mine has a power commander and that is when mine started that. Do you no if yours has a PC?
Not sure then I do no that the power commanders do cause the bike to take a little longer to start than without. Maybe your starter is dragging. Does it have a delay when starting or does it take longer to start?
I have the same issue with my 2011 FXDWG, and I have a Power Commander V, with Stage 1 installed. It's definately the PCV doing it, as I never had the problem before.
Mine did the same thing. I have a PCV and stage 1 installed. I don't use the run/stop switch anymore nor wait for little engine icon to go out and it starts almost instantly now. IF you turn the ignition on and hit the run button-wait for engine light to go out it WILL start much harder. No probs since i heard this from another member months ago...Something about the PC tricking the stock ECU.. I don't know but leave it in 'run' and twist the ignition and hit the start button instantly! Problem solved!

It doesn't take any longer to start, just hesitates right after hitting the start button.
It isn't battery or cables or connections of them. I have replaced and been through all of that with a fine tooth comb. I haven't replaced the starter/solenoid but I have had it
apart and I don't see anything obviously wrong. This discovery of not doing it when the key is left on leads me to believe it is a ECM thing of some sort.
Does anyone know if you can tell if you have the Stage 1 download short of getting the download from the dealer ?
I have noticed mine does that as well. I have ridden a friends sportster nightster 1200 and his did the hesitation before starting as well. I no some do not do it but not sure what causes it.
I guess the 'hesitation' issue is a bit different. I never really noticed that so much. I was referring to the engine cranking longer to start. IF i pop starter button quickly usually 1 or maybe 2 cranks. IF engine light is out -it will crank 3-5 times before lighting up. Sorry if i confused anyone!!
