My name is Jeff and this is my first post in the forums so let me start off by saying hello to everybody.
Anyways, I'm looking to dump the mid controls for forward controls on my '05 Low Rider. Can you guys and gals offer me any advice as to what brand of controls to buy? I'm not brand loyal and really just want high quality parts that will fit w/o and modification to any original parts on the bike. I also prefer chrome over polished parts.
Welcome aboard. You can try Kyurikan (not sure if thats spelled right). I know they have some chrome ones and have a work around so you don't have to open the primary. Good luck.

Yeah both Kyurikan and HD kits have the pieces to lock off and cap the old sfifter shaft
Welcome to the Forums, don't be a stranger. I have also used the HD forwards, changing out the brake pad, shifter and all of the footpegs for Kuryakyn parts. The HD hardware is a straight forward installation, should take about an hour or so. Since your FXDL is a 2005, there is no hassle with opening the primary and going through the process on the 2006-2007 model line up.
Kuryakyn makes a nice set, I happen to like the finish and fit of the HD controls, but you should look at both and get the set that suits your tastes best.
Hey, I just installed the hd forward controls on my 05 FXD. No problem at all. I ordered them from Zanotis. Took about an hour or so. I think the price was 253.00 plus shipping.
My brother put forwards on his SuperGlide using H-D parts. Only problem was he used the Wide-Glide crash bar and when the front suspension was compressed, the front fender hit the bar. He needed to adjust the fender down about an inch. The H-D forward kit worked fine and was easy to install.
