What if H-D made bikes that were blacked out with loud pipes and really low suspenson....would y'all be chroming them, fitting quiet pipes and longer shocks?????
Its a serious question because I was thinking and wondering if the aftermarket sector is driven by reaction to what we are sold or whether we really are improving our bikes?
Sure thing. When the bikes were all chrome, guys started blacking them out (not me though). Something is often done just to either make a statement (such as "I can't customize well) or to individualize.
The issue is simple...like anything there are trends. The MoCo adjust to the trends but by the time they do, the trend is now something different. A few years ago everything was a "custom" with tons of chrome. Now it's the Dark Customs. Who knows what will be next but for me I like a little bit of both with constrasting blacks and silvers with a little color thrown in for good measure.
It has nothing to do with black or chrome. It is everyone's nature to have something that is unique to them. Anyone can buy something done off the showroom floor. It's just the need to be individualized. It's about making it yours.
+1 exactly my thoughts as well, you need something to set off the black and chrome, black or chrome by itself look plain IMO.
