I rode a 250cc metric for 3 years logging 29K miles while I dreamed of getting my first HD. Three years ago, I attended the HD Demo rides at an OC dealer convinced that the next move up would logically be to a Sportster. The sportsters (Nightster, 883 Low and another I don't remember) proved to be a disappointment. But then I tried a Dyna Street Bob. What a pleasant surprise. Smooth, powerful and great handling, it's as nimble as my 250 metric was!! Well, for the next 2 years I tried Softtails, Touring Bikes, other Dynas and yes, even some Sportsters, but always loved the FXDB.
This year, I finally bought a 2011 Dyna Street Bob and love it! I don't think I would have been as happy with a Sportster. IMHO.

I had a 2010 Forty-Eight for 8 months. It was fast and cool looking. But, it couldn't be ridden comfortably for hours on the freeway. So, I traded it for the 2011 FXDC. I couldn't believe how comfortable it was, even in stock trim. No comparison.

Well, just an update:

I went to the dealership and rode a 2011 WG with the 96 engine. The lady said that I needed to try the 96 first, plus she felt better with me on it than the 103 coming from a 883(53.9). So, I was like of, at least I can get a feel for it.

The ride was about 3-4 miles, they have a loop that they want people to take. City, then some highway, one exit with some turns. Nothing big, but enough to get a small taste. I rode my sporty there, 30 miles or so. Butt was a little sore, from NM roads and lack of care on over pass joints. Got on the WG and am hooked! There was two things I didn't like, but can be fixed. The handlebars pull back way to much, my hands was about mid-thigh and about at my nipple height. Not comfortable, or maybe I am just use to leaning forward a bit with my lower Z-bars. Then the shifter and brake peddles are weird, compared to mine. I had to roll my foot in to shift, and was a pain in the butt to get into N. The brake peddle was to far straight up and down, for me to hit the brake, I had to take my foot off the peg and push on the peddle only. Felt weird!

All and all, WIDE Glide or something bigger is for sure. The wife is happy, this means she gets to keep the sporty and have it all to her self. Was going to trade it in on a Street Glide, but I just don't want the payment. I like the idea of having both bigs paid off, or nearly paid off with a tiny payment than a large one.

Good times..:-)

I put road king shocks on my sportster and it improved the ride quite a bit, but the dyna I have now rides better with the stock shocks than the sporty with the roadkings.

Now see I think my Sportster with the RK shocks rides better than my WG with the stock shocks...So much so I thought about putting RK shocks ON the WG.

I think it depends on what your after...comfort or sport?
I spent $$$ on Progressive Suspension components front and rear on my old 2004 1200R and it was never as comfy as the stock suspension on the Fat Bob is.
