Default FXDX suspention settings

Just picked up a 2005 FXDXi with 2600 miles. Adjusted the suspention for the first time, then took a short ride. 3 things to consider 1: everybody in QUEENS drives like an *** %*$E 2: there is no shortage of bad roads and 3: everybody in QUEENS drives like an ***%&*E!! ground was a little wet and there was alot of patches of leaves so I took it easy. I definately noticed a difference over the stock setup. Now I need a good day to really ride the bike. I used the following settings FORK REBOUND 11(stock 8) FORK COMPRESSION 7(stock 3) FORK PRELOAD 2 lines(stock 4 lines) REAR REBOUND 8(stock 3) REAR PRELOAD 4(stock 3) The only other addition will be a FORKBRACE,may be next year WORKS dual rate springs. I know alot of you are familiar with the FXDX so any suggestions or tips are welcomed THANX !!

suggestions: enjoy the scoot... oh and thunderheaders are the perfect pipe for the FXDX. Great choice in bike BTW...Had I been smarter, I would have gotten one. I had the choice between two of them(05 or an 04) along with my FXDC and stupidly(least I know that now) I got the FXDC.

I bought a new 03 FXDXT, but have sold it on now. I wouldn't change anything in the suspension at all, simply adjust what you have to give you the best ride. You have probably the best suspension ever fitted to a Harley up to the time your bike was made, so make any changes with care! If you change the springs, use single-rate ones matched to your weight and riding style. Get them from a suspension specialist who knows what they are talking about. Dual rate springs are a compromise and you don't need to do that!

How did you do the fork preload? I only thought they were adjustable for the compression and rebound. Refresh me on those also. Is the compression on top and the rebound on the bottom?

Thanx everyone. First words out of my friends mouth '' these run great with a thunderheader" (selling the RINEHARTS that are on now) opted for a set of HARDCHROME straight shots. O.K. I wont change the springs, gonna leave it alone. I'm broke now anyway, have to sell my 81 STURGIS to re coup some cash. The compression damping is on the bottom of the forks, the preload is the 7/8 nut on the top of the forks and the rebound damping is the little adjuster on top of that.

Thanks. I have played around with the compression and rebound, but did not know that you could adjust the preload. My forks seem to dive a little too easy. I'm a big guy and need a little more under me.

I set the preload almost all the way, only 2 lines visible. still have a little more dive than I would like. I did manage to put a little more miles on the bike the other day and I must say I am very happy. A fork brace for X mass, some METZLERS or AVONS when tires are due and thats it. I still have not adressed the "spongy brake" issue yet, thats next. I have the RINEHART exhaust that came on the bike for sale if anyone is interested.
