Folks,
I've spent most of my first day on the forums looking for this answer. If I looked past it could someone please re-direct me?
Anyway... I love my '11 Fat Bob and am slowly but surely making slight modifications to personalize it. One of the main points is my height. I'm 6'4" with long legs so the forward foot controls work out great but I'd like to add the 8" risers, not pullbacks, just to get the grips a few more inches higher. The answer I've been trying to find is will the stock cables work with the 8" risers? Thanks in advance, folks!
I changed the bars on mine a few times... my advice is to get a set of stock Street Bob clutch, throttle & idle cables. For the front (dual) brake line a newer style touring modle (Road King) is a good choice.
1" Low Rider bars on 6" pull back risers, internal control wires:
1.25" Fat Boy bars & risers, internal control wires:
This last pic is my current set up... 1" Flander Flat Tract bars on stock risers & internal wires. I found that the Fat Bob throttle/idle cable look better on this set.
There's one other thing I should add... the metal portions on the Road King brake line cab be bent as needed to fit. It is not a direct bolt on but the banjo bolts are the same.
I got 8" risers on my Fatbob and they work. The clutch cable is just slightly tight only if you turn it all the way to the right like when maneuvering it in the garage or something. Got the risers off ebay like these but different seller. You will need to get them for 1.25" bars.
clown shoes, I have a 2011 Fat Bob as well. Harley decided to clean up the front on our bikes (2011) by shortening the clutch cables. If I'm not mistaken, Blacknsilver has a '09 which has a longer cluth cable than ours. I do not think it will be long enough with 8" risers. I just installed 2" spacers on my stock risers and my clutch cable was very tight. I found out the hard way. I ended up wit a barnet +4" on it now and it fits with no extra cable that I had to deal with. Good luck with the mod and post a picture if you can. I,d like to see it. By the way, I'm also 6' 4" and love the 2" extensions made by spacerjim.com. Check them out. They might be another option for you. At $47 they would save you some money. If you go to my photo album you can see what they look like. There a good quality piece powder coated black and look like they came from harley when mounted. Ride safe!
Bigbully,
I hear ya. I spent a little time doing some more searching and I ran into the same answers you did. I decided to take the plunge and go with 9.5" risers and added a broomstick handlebar to straighten my elbows out a little and I also went ahead and ordered new cables to accomodate the extra length. That way everything I need is done now. Had I learned about the West Coast Tbars prior to ordering the risers and bushings I would've gone with those but I think I'll be happy with what I have.
Other than a few minor cosmetic mods (i.e. horn cover, derby cover) that and the seat are the last mods I'll be making until I get back from my upcoming extended "business trip" to afghani-land. Then it'll be the V&H Big Radius 2-1 as the last major mod for awhile. I went with the Brawler solo seat since it got really good reviews. I like it a lot but being as tall as I am I was feeling some low back stress, especially after some highway miles. Hopefully the work being done right now helps that.
I'll put up some pics within the next few days. The work will all be done tomorrow so as soon as I get a chance they'll be here. Thanks for the input, fellas!
The risers I ordered are the same angle as the stock risers, just a longer length. There is no additional pull back at the top of them like some risers have.
Turns out the broomstick bar was on back order but the company failed to mention it until the shop called and asking where it was. Thanks, guys. So now a different one from a different company will be in tomorrow.
In the mean time I ordered a 7" headlight to replace the duals with since I like the look so much and it's a relatively inexpensive mod.
